The porcupinefish's eye is a modest circle visible near the top of the photo, hidden amongst its spines. the pond vampire water bug would grace any b-grade thriller. the flashlight fish feeds at night and harbors bioluminescent bacteria that produce light below its eyes. the mantis shrimp's eyes allow it to see well around it but not straight ahead. the scallop has two rows of eyes that look in every direction and sense the movement of shadows cast by approaching starfish, their predators.
